Medical spa opens on West Seventh Street
A doctor and his wife, a master cosmetologist and electrologist, have opened a medical spa in Frederick. Crystal Lume Medical Spa is located at 15 W. Seventh St. The spa offers a variety of cosmetic medical services. Dr. Alan Rohrer, an internist for more than 25 years, and Unchol "Ann" Rohrer, a master cosmetologist and electrologist for more than 20 years, will operate the spa, which they said offers the latest technologies in noninvasive cosmetic procedures and hormone replacement therapy. Rohrer said he knows no one looks forward to formal surgery and expanded his expertise to provide clients with alternatives. Invasive, painful surgery requires long-term recovery, he said. The new spa offers hormone replacement therapy, botox and dermal fillers, laser hair removal, photofacials, Silkpeel microdermabrasion, acne and scar treatment, varicose vein treatment, skin rejuvenation, skin analysis using SkinPrint, Gentle Touch electrolysis and Xtreme eyelashes.

Young journalists compete for top spot in MTV reality show
The passion. The deadline. The competition. The drama. It will all be there in black and white, or black and blue if the new MTV reality show, "The Paper," lives up to its teasers. The show follows four teenagers as they compete to become editor in chief of their award-winning high school newspaper, The Circuit. Somebody please etch what I'm about to say in limestone somewhere, because this is the first and last time I will ever say this about an MTV reality show. I am dripping with excitement for this show. As someone about to face the real world with a brand-spanking new journalism degree and a half decade's experience at newspapers, I feel strongly connected to this story. Putting out a newspaper (whether it's daily like The State News or monthly or weekly like most high school publications) is a stressful endeavor.
Milk of magnesia may alleviate acne
Have you heard of using milk of magnesia on severe acne? My son has cystic nodular acne. He is 16 and has been under a dermatologist's care for many years. We have spent thousands of dollars, to no avail. He has recently tried a home remedy: applying milk of magnesia to his face at night before bed. He looks the best he has in four years. Why is this working? We don't know why it might combat acne, but we have heard that this laxative can help clear up seborrheic dermatitis. In this condition, yeast on the skin causes redness and flakes, rather like dandruff, but on the forehead and chin as well as scalp and eyebrows. Here is one reader's report: "I have been using milk of magnesia on my face for the past two months, and my face flakes are gone! I pour it in my hand and massage it on my face (forehead, eyebrows, around the eyes, nose, cheeks and chin) while showering, and rinse it off at the end of the shower.
